Student Testimonies

Jim H. - Senior - Journalism

I didn’t know anyone when I first came to CSU and I was looking for a Christian group to get plugged into. What drew me to Christian Challenge was how close everyone was – it was like a family. In my three years at CSU, Christian Challenge has been my home away form home.
Each week we have worship and Bible study that provides consistent, sound teaching. Wade, Gary and Carol have made themselves available as Christian leaders to offer guidance and council when we need it. They even disciple many of us one-on-one each week.
But I think the best thing about Christian Challenge is that, here, you make solid, Christian friends who will encourage and challenge you as you grow in your walk with God – a necessity during the college years.

As a Freshman, I was nervous about finding a Bible study that was a right fit for me. I grew up in a small town and was used to having close personal relationships with the people in my Sunday School classes and Bible studies. When I first showed up to Christian Challenge, all my fears were gone. Everyone was really friendly and went out of their way to talk to me. I quickly began to feel like these people were my family. They were encouraging, and challenged me to live for Christ. The focus the group has on discipleship is perfect for anyone who wants to grow in their walk with God.

When I came to CSU as a freshman in 2005, I was a Christian - but I didn't know what it meant to have a consistent relationship with God.  I thought I could rely on myself to make it through college and decide what was best for me.  Through Christian Challenge, I met Gary, Wade, and many great Christian friends who have taught and encouraged me over the past three years.
Each week we meet to worship God, learn from the Bible, and hang out with friends at the Christian Challenge house.  Also, once a week I meet with Gary for a time of accountability, scripture memory, and prayer called Discipleship.  Discipleship has trained me to be a follower of Christ and a leader in Christian Challenge.  I now meet with another younger student to do the same things I do with Gary and teach him the things I have learned over the past four years.  Besides the weekly activities, Christian Challenge also provides great opportunities to go to retreats and conferences where you hear messages from Christian speakers and meet other Christian students from around the country.
Christian Challenge has meant a lot to me during my college years and has helped me grown in my relationship with God and trained me to become a servant for Christ and a leader in whatever way He may use me.

Almost from the moment students step on campus, there are hundreds of clubs, organizations, and societies from which they can choose. With so many choices, it was important for me to be a part of a group that was not only able to offer me something, but was also something that I could give back to in return. That’s where Christian Challenge came into play. I immediately found myself surrounded by caring individuals who were choosing to not only develop their beliefs, but to live them out as well. I have received a great deal of friendship, encouragement, and strengthening of my faith, but have also found a place where I can serve the campus and community with Christ’s love.
Christian Challenge offers multiple ways for students to be involved, and I found it very easy to get plugged in with the awesome, genuine people here. Our weekly large group meetings include worship, Bible Study, and fellowship with friends. Each week, the guys and girls have a separate Bible Study, and I have also loved being involved in one-on-one discipleship as well. We take part in our share of intramural sports for CSU each semester as well! I have also enjoyed passing on the love we have been given through outreach activities on campus, community service projects, and mission trips.
So if you’re looking for a place to build community, grow in your relationship with God, or reach out to your campus and world, definitely come check out Christian Challenge!

I have been involved in the Christian Challenge group for a year now. Before I attended CSU, I went to a four year boarding high school in Roswell. While down there, I never really grew in my faith so as soon as I graduated I knew that I would change that in college and really make my faith a priority in college. I was introduced to Gary at a camp the summer before the start of the school year, and felt that God opened the door for me to get involved in the group. I have definitely been blessed.
I jumped right in as soon as I could, becoming a member of the praise team and getting involved in discipleship. The Christian Challenge group has had a key role in allowing me to be the strongest in my faith I have ever been. The reason for this is the supporting atmosphere that is totally evident from the first time you walk into the meetings. It was extremely easy to grow into the person that God wants me to be. The people there are awesome and have become some amazing friends. There is not any of the peer pressure that an incoming student would expect to face on a college campus.
I would recommend that anyone interested in growing in their faith as well as meeting some awesome people should at least try the Christian Challenge. It is an awesome way to grow through a bunch of activities such as the discipleship other planned activities. It is a great way to be surrounded by other Christians and to not feel all the pressures of "normal" college student life.

Becoming a part of Christian Challenge is the most important thing I did my freshman year. There are many reasons why, but the most important is that it gave me a great atmosphere to learn about God and grow closer to Him. Christian Challenge is a great place to get connected to a group of college kids who are doing their best to grow closer to God every day.
The discipleship program that we have is amazing! I love being able to have that one-on-one time with Lindsay, a more mature Christian, and have her teach me what she has learned, and always be there to encourage me. This program has been great, and is helping me in my walk with God every day.
I also love the activities we go as a group. Whether it’s a weekend retreat to Ponderosa, a dinner at Jim’s wings, or a nine day trip down to New Orleans, we always have a great time together! Christian Challenge has become a second home and even a second family to me.
